Ahh Winterland, you were a while ago now but should not be forgotten!
Winterland was my first official Feral Media gig so I thought it deserved a post of its own, even if it is a
month or so late. Winterland is a small winter festival held at Carriageworks where a whole bunch of small craft and fashion makers set up stalls along side a miniature ice rink while indie bands play. Think makers-market meets Inertia on ice. Well, in this case it was Feral Media, not Inertia, but hopefully the image resonates!
Performing was Vorad Fils, me, Afxjim and Gentleforce with DJing from Underlapper.
Carriageworks has a really good vibe to perform in. As a converted train works warehouse it has massively high ceilings, lots of old beams and skylights. Singing in the space was fun, as my somewhat large operatic voice was bouncing off everywhere, with a kind of weird echo- the raw live sound and the sound of my voice being processed and spat out through the PA system and everything bouncing around the space for a few seconds.
The night was a highlight for me, being both the first Textile Audio gig I’ve performed in Sydney since 2006 and also because I got to meet Gentleforce. Gentleforce had just finished remixing a track for my upcoming EP and we’d talked a bit in the virtual world but it was reassuring to see the person behind the email. Plus he played a mean set around his Sacred Spaces album.
